Jeremy Smith is a Senior Consultant with RSZ Forensic Associates and brings significant audit, tax, and corporate accounting experience to assist the firm's client-attorneys and their respective clients. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has provided accounting, audit, and tax services in corporate, public sector, and public accounting settings, serving governmental entities, nonprofit organizations, and small to medium-sized businesses.
Jeremy Smith Bio's
Prior to joining RSZ, Jeremy served as an Investment Accounting Manager for an international real estate development and investment company. In this role, he managed daily accounting functions for multiple investment and holding companies, prepared quarterly and annual financial statements, and researched and implemented accounting guidance for new and complex transactions. He also instituted new procedures to streamline the financial reporting process and served as a subject matter expert for unique financial transactions.
Jeremy also previously worked for regional CPA firms in the areas of audit and taxation. As an auditor, he planned and managed financial statement and compliance audits of governmental and nonprofit entities in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards, applying contracts, grant agreements, OMB circulars, and GASB, FASB, and AICPA standards. He cultivated relationships with clients, oversaw the audit process from start to finish, and efficiently managed engagement budgets. On the tax side, he prepared individual and corporate tax returns, researched the Internal Revenue Code, interpreted foreign financial statements, and assisted clients with franchise, sales, and payroll tax reporting. He also provided professional education workshops to local accounting and client organizations.
Jeremy's public sector experience includes his time as an Associate Accountant for a municipal government, where he administered the disbursement of more than $1 million in state and federal funds, assisted with the reconciliation of grant-related fund accounts, and performed limited scope audits of grant recipients' financial statements and records.
His areas of expertise include financial statement preparation, compliance and control testing, account and general ledger reconciliation, and communicating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, which contribute to accurate and timely financial reporting. Jeremy holds a Master of Accountancy with a concentration in Financial/Audit and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, both from The University of Texas at El Paso.
In addition to his professional activities, Jeremy gives back to his community by volunteering at his children's schools and coaching youth sports.
